Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

Christmas can be a lovely time of year.  I don’t look forward to it as much as I used to when I was young.  I’ve become somewhat jaded I think.  Maybe because Christmas has become so commercialized. Maybe because it’s been politicized.  Or maybe, I’ve just become an old fart.  Whatever!

Anyway, I intend, at least to the extent that I can in these trying times, to be of good cheer and to refrain from blogging until the beginning of the new year.

In 2011, BoE will begin a series of posts combining:

  • Teacher & Administrative Payroll
  • Additional FOIA Advice
  • School Board Governance
  • Finance and Budgets.

Should be fun.

In the mean time two things.  First, if you are an school administrator, a teacher or a parent and you think things in EMSD#63 or your district are not quite right, you are not alone.

Did you know that EMSD#63 schools failed to make AYP this year – again

EMSD#63 - AYP Reports - 2009 & 2010

and we’re told the District is going broke too – again!

Join me. The American educational system is financially and academically out of control and our school district is part of the problem.  We need to fix it!

Lastly, here’s wishing you and yours a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

With the district going through some budget cuts, my way to save some money would be to eliminate the board paid TRS, THIS health ins, district health, vision insurance and travel for the administrators and make them pay it themselves. That would save a lot of jobs and programs. The total is around $400,000 a year for the people who make the most money they sure seem to have to pay the least if anything, and the ones who do all the work to make them look good, the teachers, get paid the least (compared to neighboring school districts, and have to pay for their own TRS, Health, Dental and Travel. Can you explain that to me please. I'm starting to drift to your side of the street Mr. Butterly.

Merry Christmas! You’ve placed quite a package under my Christmas Tree.

First. Your observations are correct.

Second. Your solutions have merit and in my opinion are reasonable.

Third. The ultimate culprits are our long-time “hear no evil – see no evil – speak no evil” School Board Members. They, continue to be led by long-term President Jane Wojtkiewicz, and are responsible for the outrageous pay packages enjoyed by our school administrators today. Board members authorize the contracts, and Jane Wojtkiewicz, John Jekot and Steven Levy have authorized budgets since 2004-2005 tax-increase referendum and must be held accountable for the financial hole this district is in today.

Lastly, it's time to stop drifting. You already know what to do. Time to take the risk. Call it your New Years resolution for 2011. Come over to the sunny side of the street. Lets work together. There’s lots of room and you'll be in good company.
